while the weather is still too cold to move them outside (especially today!) i've been incubating some herbs on the windowsill in the kitchen.
so far we have (l-r) scallions, parsley, flat-leaf parsley, basil and, not pictured (on the counter top beside the window) some coriander and some thyme.
the basil and the coriander will probably stay indoors (as our little north-facing yard is pretty feeble on sunlight at this time of year) but the parsleys and the thyme will get moved outside when they've grown up enough and the weather gets a bit warmer. they have some well-established rosemary, mint, bay, oregano and chives out there to keep them company, so i hope they won't fare too badly.
unfortunately herbs are the only edibles that can be grown in the yard given its aspect and the sunlight scarcity, but i dream of the day i will have a big(ger), sunny, ideally south-west facing garden for things like tomatoes, courgettes, strawberries and the like.
