you can just about see the dome of st peter's through the pillars. this was the closest i got to the biggest church in the world during my time in rome. maybe given that i was tempted to rinse my ice-cream sticky fingers in the holy water font of the only other church i visited on the trip, this isn't such a bad thing. of course i never actually would have washed my hands in the font - but i suspect the temptation of it would be enough to set off the 'sinner' alarms that they surely have at the doors of all vatican churches?
I think that all sinners are welcome in St. Peter’s. When I was there, what struck me most about it was that it was treated more like a disneyland attraction than a place of worship or a place where you should behave with reverence and decorum and a certain amount of respect. People were running around, talking loudly, taking pictures. Ice cream fingers in the holy water font would have paled in comparison to some of the antics in the Vatican. (Don’t get me started on what happens in the Sistine chapel).
Really nice composition and colors. i like the pattern that the columns are creating here.
